femoral acetabular impingement

femoroacetabular impingement-fai, refers to excess bone growth to either the hip-acetabulum, or the leg-femur (the ball specifically). where the excess bone has formed impingement happens. this impingement causes a lack of range of motion, discomfort and knocking of the hip; all of which can lead to osteo-arthritis, a labral tear and many other issues to the iliac and anterior femoral regions.

fai is found in three forms:
cam-excess bone on the femur
pincer-excess bone on the acetabulum
mixed-excess bone on both the femur and acetablum.
